Hallelujah Chinese Evangelical Free Church is a Cantonese-speaking congregation with about 150 active congregants. We are located in a vibrant neighborhood of Scarborough in the city of Toronto, Ontario. We are part of the Evangelical Free Church of Canada, and church governance is by nature congregationalism.
We are calling a Lead Pastor who is a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ and has integrity, a strong commitment to the Lord and to the church. Our future pastor has the passion to expound God’s word, to develop lay leadership and to turn strategic planning into reality. We desire our pastor to have ministry experience with people who are middle-aged to young seniors.
The pastor will shepherd the church by:
- Modeling the grace and love of God
- Proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ through preaching
- Engaging in pastoral care ministries
- Providing overall leadership to the church
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate integrity and grace in speech and in deed
- Expound the Word of God according to expositional preaching principles
- Extend pastoral care and pastoral counselling as needed
- Assist the congregation in discovering and developing their spiritual gifts
- Mentor potential leaders to deepen their biblical knowledge and skills to serve in various capacities
- Assist in placing lay leaders in suitable ministry roles
- Work collaboratively with the pastoral team, Deacon Board and lay leaders to formulate strategic plans, including short-term and long-term goals
- Provide leadership to pastoral team and mentorship to its members
- Provide insight, support and guidance for different church departments or committees
Qualifications:
- Agree with and subscribe to EFCC’s Core Beliefs including
- the Statement of Faith,
- Our Character and Calling,
- Other statements as established from time to time.
- Able to affirm the EFCC Covenant of Personal and Professional Ethics unreservedly.
- M. Div or higher in an ATS-accredited seminary.
- At least 5 years of pastoral experience and be willing to pass the EFCC Ministerial Accreditation process within 5 years of assuming office.
- Fluency in spoken Cantonese and proficiency in written Chinese and English; Mandarin is an asset but not a requirement.
- Strong preaching, mentoring, and leadership skills, yet embrace a shared vision with church leadership.
- Ability to think strategically, being resourceful and innovative in ministry plans.
- Enthusiastic, friendly, approachable, tactful and easygoing.
- Self-starter, trainer and a team builder.
