Ministry Assistant

The ministry assistant is a strategic role that will provide leadership on specific projects and support to staff and volunteers to increase the effectiveness of the ministries of the church. This role requires a person with a heart for local church ministry and a sense of call to ministry in an urban, downtown setting and among people with complex needs. The ministry assistant will provide specific support to our director of ministry.

Located in the centre of Hamilton, Ontario, the diversity of our congregation reflects that of our city: we are home to people of all ages, stages, abilities, ethnicities, and traditions.

Major Areas of Responsibility:

  • Secretarial and related office services.
  • Provide administrative support for pastoral staff and various ministries.
  • Assist with basic bookkeeping.
  • Assist with design and implementation of promotion/communication strategy (website, email, social media, etc.)
  • Attend Philpott church on Sundays and carry out related duties (social media posting, oversight of guest-services team, etc.)
  • Assist with volunteer co-ordinating, recruitment & scheduling.
  • Attend other Philpott events as requested and carry out related duties.
  • Assist in our urban outreach ministry (street ministry, new to Canada, Alpha etc.).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A deep relationship with Jesus Christ and the ability to share this relationship openly in the form of prayer and personal testimony to meet the spiritual needs of others.
  • A clear call to serve in church ministry work. Have the spiritual gift of administration, service and helps.
  • A call to ministry in an urban, downtown setting.
  • Willingness to sign our statement of faith.
  • Excellent administrative, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Strong communication skills – written and verbal.
  • Experience working with people from different cultures and perspectives.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and take on administrative/communication projects.
  • Basic graphic design skills a plus.
  • Experience creating documents for publication in print and online.
  • Bookkeeping experience a plus.

Employment Type: Full-time, short-term (3-6 months)
Compensation: Commensurate with experience and qualifications
Effective Date: Flexible
Reports to: Lead Pastor
