Newbern Alliance Church is looking for a qualified pastor to lead the work of its English Ministry.
Who we are as a church:
- Newbern Alliance Church is a bilingual multigenerational church located in the Sunset community of South Vancouver, on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish Nation), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation).
- Officially opened in 1976 primarily by immigrants and students from Hong Kong, we are beginning to raise our third generation as a family-oriented church.
- The English congregation has about 30-50 regular attendees each Sunday, from youths to retirees, with the bulk of the people between young adults in their 20s to couples with kids in their 40s.
- Most people have long roots in the church, but we have also been blessed with a steady stream of newcomers in recent years.
- We are a church with aspirations to be transformed into a more diverse and inclusive community of the Triune God, with greater relevance to the surrounding neighbourhood and the network of people we are connected to.
Primary responsibilities and accountability:
- The English Pastor is responsible for discipling, equipping, and leading the people of the English Congregation to grow closer to Christ and fulfill God’s mission for us through the power of the Holy Spirit.
- To that end, the English Pastor oversees and leads the various ministry areas of our English Ministry, through the English Ministry Committee, such as worship, prayer, Christian education, evangelism, pastoral care, fellowships/small groups.
- Jointly with the pastoral staff, the English Pastor is also to help lead our community outreach efforts and mission activities.
- The English Pastor reports to the Senior Pastor, and works in close cooperation with the rest of the pastoral staff and the Board of Elders.
Who we are looking for (qualifications):
- Vibrant spiritual life and dedication to Christ and the people of God
- Strong testimony and blameless Christian character
- Theology degree or equivalent from an accredited evangelical institution
- Native English proficiency, be able to communicate well orally and in writing
- High intercultural competence, comfortable in navigating between cultures and ethnicities
- At least five years of pastoral experience, preferably in comparable settings
- Strong teaching and interpersonal skills
- Dedicated to building relationships, connecting with different individuals and groups
- Must have an official worker licence with the C&MA in Canada, or be prepared to be so licensed
Start Date:
- The start date is negotiable, but ideally the position should be filled by July 1, 2025.
Salary Range:
- $55,000 to $60,000 gross per annum plus benefits, based on 40 hours per week
