What is the opportunity?

The purpose of the internship is to provide our interns with the opportunity to tailor the role to their desired ministry interests and goals according to their gifts and calling of a minster. It is an opportunity to reveal, and hopefully compensate for, any lacunae in your education and training that are not covered in normal seminary courses. You will be required to participate in all aspects of the church’s ministry to be discipled by the pastoral team for continued spiritual growth, including ministry planning, execution, and evaluation.

Reporting to the Internship Supervisor, you will shadow the pastoral team throughout a variety of pastoral responsibilities and mentoring opportunities and are given ownership of various projects and ministry roles within the Five Purposes of the church ministry framework.  You will partner with a wide range of pastoral and volunteer teams to foster a strong collaboration culture for life transformation and church unity.

What will you do?

• Attend required internship training program
• Meet weekly with Internship Supervisor and mentors
• Attend weekly staff meeting
• Attend cross functional ministry planning and coordination meeting
• Participate in regular ministry events
• Support the work of the pastoral team in various ways such as ministry coordination, events planning, Sunday worship services preparation, teaching, caring, visitation, evangelical outreach, and prayer meetings
• Work with individual fellowship groups to assist in various pastoral and leadership needs within the fellowship groups and actively participate in small groups
• Attend leadership development sessions
• Other responsibilities for more tailored roles based on gifts and passion.

What do you need to excel?

• A mature Christian and commit to the philosophy, values, mission and Tenents of Faith of RHCCC
• Having a godly and exemplary family life and reputation in the community
• Completed Master of Divinity or Master of Theological Studies or Completed Bachelor of Arts in religious studies or equivalent
• Emotionally matured and people-oriented servant leadership with excellent collaboration, teamwork, communication, planning, critical thinking, problem solving skills
• Active learner and serf-starter, open to new or different ways of doing things
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively and develop relationship with all co-workers among staff, pastoral and volunteer teams in a multi-cultural, multi-generation and multilingual ministry environment
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize works collaboratively in a cross-functional and matrixed environment
• Proficient with computer and internet technology; able to keep-up with changes
• Besides English, good command of spoken and written Mandarin/Cantonese is an asset
• Good understanding of RHCCC’s values and culture is an asset

Working conditions

The Pastoral Internship is a full time (37.5 hours per week) 12-month role. Your regular office hours are on weekdays, but you are expected to be made available for meetings in evenings and weekends when required, plus regular involvement on Sundays.

Reporting structure

You will report to the Internship Supervisor and have no direct reports.
