Senior Pastor

South Edmonton Alliance Church (SEAC) is seeking a Senior Pastor to provide spiritual and pastoral leadership for the whole church. The Senior Pastor will lead the pastoral team, elders, and lay leaders to seek and follow God’s direction in building a missional community to fulfill the Mission and Vision of SEAC.

SEAC is a multilingual (currently English, Cantonese, and Mandarin), multigenerational and inter-cultural church with 400 adults and 50 children. We are a missionary sending and a missional church with the desire to serve the various ethnic groups in the local community.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to the Elder Board in discerning God’s direction, daring to dream, and casting vision for the Church.
  • Build a Spirit Empowered Leadership Team by leading, shepherding, and mentoring the pastoral staff and elders. Doing this while embodying a humble spirit and servant heart.
  • Provide pastoral care as an example of shepherding where appropriate.
  • Preach and teach the Word of God.
  • Oversee all ministries and church life of SEAC in multiple language groups through working with congregation members, ministry leaders, pastors and elders.
    • Conduct regular evaluation of ministry effectiveness and develop innovative plans for growth with elders and pastors.
    • When faced with difficult situations will stand firm on godly principles and biblical truth over worldly values.
  • Provide leadership, supervision and set examples to the pastoral team for implementing ministry plans and provide pastoral care in alignment with church vision.
    • Facilitate staff meetings for prayer, fellowship, and staff development
    • Supervise and manage the pastoral team to fulfill their pastoral duties including conducting worship services, baptism, visitations, funerals, weddings, counselling, on-site duties, etc.
    • Implement disciple-making strategy for the congregations and evangelism outreach to the lost.
    • Motivate pastors, leaders, and congregants to participate in Mission.
    • Work closely with the Board of Elders on matters of staffing and recruitment
    • In charge of recruitment, mentoring and workflow of the staff team
  • Act as the official representative and spokesperson for SEAC in communicating and dealing with ministry partners, district leadership and outside organizations.
  • To be community-minded and socially conscious, leading SEAC to be salt and light in the Millwoods area.

Qualifications:

  • Mature faith in Jesus Christ, godly character, a strong commitment to deeper life and global mission, and a calling to serve the church.
  • A shepherd heart with a passion and vision for evangelism and discipleship; able to mobilize others in a positive collaborative team environment.
  • Strong leadership skills and takes initiative. Strong team-player to work well with the pastoral and ministry leadership teams.
  • Ability to work in an inter-cultural church ministry, managing conflicts, problem solving, and uniting congregations in a united vision.
  • Ability to adapt to change, embrace innovation and creativity. Good understanding of the challenges and opportunities in a digital world.
  • Relational, with good interpersonal skills in team building of volunteers and equipping of leaders.
  • Able to meet the requirements for accreditation with the C&MA (Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada). Passionate about Mission. Supports C&MA Visions, Statement of Faith, and Mission.
  • Licensed as a current C&MA pastor or eligible to be licensed under the C&MA.
  • Have the gift and passion for preaching and biblical teaching.
  • Graduate of an accredited Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree or equivalent. Has extensive experience in a local church or a Christian organization.

The candidate should be fluent in English. Additional fluencies in other languages are considered an asset (Cantonese, Mandarin and others).
