Teaching Pastor

The Teaching Pastor at Cross Connection Church is responsible for equipping ministry leaders, fostering spiritual growth, and effectively communicating the church’s vision while actively participating in worship services and church activities. This role requires strong teaching abilities, spiritual maturity, and collaboration with both the Board and congregation to achieve ministry goals.

Hours/week: Part-time (up to 24 hours/week) Salary: based on experience and responsibility

Personal Area of Responsibilities

  • Key Area of Focus: Equip the local church through effective teaching and preaching.
  • Worship Team Coordinator: Collaborate in the planning and execution of weekly worship services.
  • Vision Communication: Clearly communicate the church’s vision and strategic goals to the congregation.
  • Integrated Discipleship Strategy: Work with the Leadership Team to create a cohesive discipleship strategy.
  • Meeting Engagement: Actively participate and engage in relevant portions of meetings.
  • Annual Reporting: Prepare annual reports for the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and regular reports to the elders.
  • Budget Management: Prepare and maintain an annual budget, filing monthly expense reports as needed.
  • Ordinance Administration: Administer the ordinances of baptism and baby dedication as requested.

Shared Responsibilities

  • Equipping Ministry Leaders: The Leadership Team’s primary responsibility is to equip ministry leaders within the church.
  • Active Church Membership: Must be an active member of Cross Connection Church (CCC).
  • Communication: Effectively communicate the vision and values of CCC.
  • Goal Setting: Set, evaluate, and adjust yearly personal, professional, and spiritual goals.
  • Board Collaboration: Work with the Board to establish vision and values- focused goals and develop regular leadership retreats.
  • Ministry Evaluation: Assess ministry outcomes against established yearly goals.
  • Meeting Updates: Share relevant updates during meetings.
  • Worship Facilitation: Assist in facilitating weekly worship services.
  • Spiritual Guidance: Provide spiritual guidance, discernment, and, if qualified, spiritual counseling.
  • Conflict Resolution: Facilitate conflict resolution when needed.
  • Conduct Ceremonies: Officiate weddings, funerals, baptisms, and baby dedications as requested.
  • Pastoral Support Meetings: Establish and maintain regular meetings with external pastoral support.
  • Personal Spiritual Discipline: Maintain a disciplined personal spiritual life, including prayer, study, and reflection, to sustain one’s faith and effectiveness in ministry.
  • Boundaries: Develop and maintain appropriate personal and professional boundaries.
  • Event Participation: Attend EMCC Regional Gathering, BC EMCC Pastor’s Retreat, and Family Camp at Charis Camp.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Gifted Teacher: Demonstrated gifting in teaching and preaching the Word.
  • Theological Dedication: Strong dedication to sound theology through formal education.
  • Credential Eligibility: Eligible and willing to obtain “Licensed Minister” or “Provisional License” credentials with the Evangelical Missionary Church of Canada.
  • Background Checks: Able to provide qualified references and pass a clear criminal record background check, including a vulnerable sector check.

  • Character and Integrity: Exhibits proven character suitable for Christian leadership.
  • Adherence to Policy: Committed to the EMCC Policy & Governance and the Articles of Faith Appendix 1.
